Fibromyalgia Helped Me Stand Up for Myself

Fibromyalgia robbed me of so many things, but one thing that it amplified was the ability to stand up for myself.

Oola helped me find my confidence again.

By doing the Oola steps (Oola Wheel, Oola Plan, and Oola Path) consistently along with OolaAccelerators and positive affirmations, I was able to be confident as my own advocate. Oola helped me set baby step goals for my dream of living a productive, full life with Fibromyalgia. Because the goals were written as SMART goals, I had important data for my doctors to see that I was not just grasping at straws but had data to back up my claims for what I was asking. SMART goals are: Specific, Measurable, Accountable, Realistic, and Time-Based.

My Best Advocate.

When I knew I needed to have a full hysterectomy to alleviate my symptoms, I had to be my best advocate. I had to be consistent and clear, not rude, in my message to the doctors treating me. I had to have a message with my own data, as discussed above, not just a whim of an idea of why I felt this was necessary for me. It was extra tricky because there is really no data out there that shows hysterectomies help Fibromyalgia. In fact, Fibromyalgia is one of those conditions that has little information about it and many contradictions.

Because everyone who lives with Fibromyalgia experiences different symptoms, there are very few real solutions. The ways to treat Fibromyalgia are as different as the people who have it.

When I found my voice, it helped me articulate where I was currently (Oola Wheel), develop a plan (Oola Plan) and helped me determine where I wanted my life to go while living with Fibromyalgia (Oola Path). My voice helped me put steps in place little by little to get the relief I needed. (Note: This is what worked for me. I am not stating that everyone with Fibromyalgia needs a full hysterectomy.)

Are you ready?

Are you ready to find your voice?  Are you ready to find your confidence again?  If you are ready to determine exactly where you are and what steps need to be taken in order to get where you want to go in your life, contact me below for a 30-minute chat.

Patience Grasshopper!

Fibromyalgia is like an onion;

it has many layers to it. Living and finding strategies that work for you is a very long, tedious task. As I was trying to find ways to live a full life in spite of Fibro, I kept hearing Lexi, my daughter, saying, “Patience Grasshopper!” And, that is exactly what I needed. I knew where I wanted to be, and I wanted to jump right to that spot. But it doesn’t work that way. I had to incorporate one new piece over a period of time.  I had to analyze the pros and cons of each piece to determine if it was helpful or not before moving on to the next one.

Weight Gained.

The weight I gained with Fibromyalgia is a perfect example of this. Part of the weight gain had to do with a prescription I was given to try to keep the level of pain down. While it did not lower the pain levels, it did, in some ways, add to it, because I gained 40 pounds in 2 months. We all know extra weight does not help any symptoms. Of course, this weight did not come off in 2 months after stopping the drug but has instead persisted to stay.

Additionally, Fibromyalgia causes an excess of inflammation. Talk about feeling like the Michelin Man! After my hysterectomy, I was ready for the next steps to lose the excess weight and inflammation. I started working on my nutrition through nutritional supplements with my chiropractor. Three years later, I am finally starting to see a leaner body. Am I where I want to be? No, but I am getting there. This is the first time I have been able to see diagnostic results since the weight gain.

Oola Helped Me Accept What I Did Not Have Control Over.

I was stuck in many OolaBlockers. Fibromyalgia had me living a fearful, guilt-ridden life. I was angry. I felt my normal life had been taken from me, and I was envious of others who were able to continue to live their life without all of the complications caused by Fibromyalgia. I am usually not this type of person. I turned into someone I did not know.

Grieving Over Who I Used to Be.

With wisdom, an OolaAccelerator, I realized that rather than feeling shame over these feelings, it was part of a grieving process. I had to grieve the person I was before Fibromyalgia so that I could move forward and reinvent myself. I had to grieve my pre-Fibromyalgia life so I could create a new, full, and positive life despite Fibromyalgia.

If you are grieving who you were prior to a change in your life, contact me below and let’s get on a 30-minute call to start getting you on the road of living your best life.

Oola Life is a Blank Canvas

If you were to look at your life as an art piece, what would it look like?

What colors would be involved? Would you have a vibrant or dark looking piece?

If I were to look at my life canvas, I would see vibrant colors for most of my life, with dark areas for the difficult times in my life. The darkest part would cover about 10 years of my life. Trying to figure out my Fibromyalgia diagnosis, how to live with it, and what would alleviate my symptoms were some of my darkest times. During this dark time, there would also be a lot of abstractness because my life was so unbalanced.

Oola Helped Me Dream Again!

Finding Oola was so helpful to me. It not only helped me become more balanced, but it also helped me dream again. It gave me the ability to accept where I was (Oola Wheel), identify where I wanted to go (Oola Plan), and develop the action steps to achieve it (Oola Path). Oola gave me hope again.

My Canvas Is Full of Bright Colors Again!

Today, my canvas is full of bright colors and the anticipation of living a life worth living. I am living a more balanced life. It is so refreshing and uplifting to be on this side again. When I do have Fibromyalgia flares, I have the wisdom to just ride the tide, because it will pass. And, I know what I need to do to help myself during the flares, and I do it without apologizing. I have the gratitude that, although I have flares that sometimes last 2 months, the pain and fatigue of a flare do not last 365 days a year.

If you have experienced a change, no matter what that change was, that has turned your life into one of unbalance and uncertainty, contact me below to set up a 30-minute chat. I am here for you!

Who Doesn’t Want to Live in Mr. Rogers Neighborhood?

Mr. Rogers had such a wonderful way of looking at life.  I would call him one of my role models.  He embodies so much of what I admire and strive to become.

Being Present.

Mr. Rogers always made sure you felt special, no matter the circumstance.  He was often heard saying: The most important thing in the world, for me, right now, is talking to you.

What if we told everyone we met, even strangers, this same statement?  Yes, you might get weird looks at first. However, it will also immediately take down built up walls and predetermined beliefs.  A feeling of immense love and gratitude will take their place.  Just writing that statement made me feel warmth, love, and a sense of self-worth!

Positively Powerful Strategy:

Next time you are in the presence of someone say:

The most important thing in the world, for me, right now, is talking to you.

Or

The most important thing in the world, for me, right now, is being with you.

You Matter!

My clients matter!  When we have our 1:1 meetings it is all about you!   Your weekly wins, misses, and growth are the main focus.

As a life coach, you don’t have to come to me only when your life is in turmoil. Counselors and psychologists should handle that.  I am here for you before you feel you are at that point.

I work with clients who are living a pretty great life, but want someone to guide them in making it even better.

I hold them accountable for their goals, and help them find what may be preventing them from achieving a goal that always seems to slip from their grasp.

I’d love to talk with YOU!

If you want to go from a life of ordinary to extraordinary, comment below so we can set up a complimentary 30 minute chat.  It is all private.

Crush Your Career in 2021

Here’s a question: do you want the same career in 2021 that you had in 2020?

Was job stress (or even job loss) at the top of your list of worries this past year?

If so, consider seriously how you might “wrap things up” this month, so you can improve your work situation in 2021. For instance, do you need to:

  • Talk to your boss about a different approach to your deadlines?
  • Talk to your spouse about parenting expectations?
  • Rework your side hustle so it pays more, but takes less energy?
  • Investigate what it takes to get a promotion?
  • Create a plan to retire early and move into the encore career of your dreams?

Whether you work for someone else, have your own business, or parent full-time with a side hustle for extra cash, being in your right livelihood is critical to your happiness.

Getting your career on solid footing will lower your stress, open your mind for growth, and help you find your ultimate life purpose.
